The prize if you win the whole damn thing is a college scholarship; if you’re good enough to be the best damn speller in the world you should be able to apply your knowledge to something more useful and get a scholarship that way instead.

I was in 4th grade spelling bee and I was beating them like IKE! It was me and a Indian kid on the stage. They gave him the word “weapon” and he gets it right. They give the little Korean (me) kid “whirligig”… so I said “What the fuck is a whirligig” into the mic.

My mother went taekwondo, tang soo do, hapkido… all those DO’s on my ass that night!
